Contour and Highlight Make All The Difference

Contour and highlight are very important techniques used by professional makeup artist.
Highlighting the areas where you want o show it better and darken the areas you want to hide it has many uses: it serves to sharpen the nose, narrow the face, decrease the forehead, smooth the jowl line, soften chin, etc. Sounds simple right? And it is, just follow some rules so that the effect becomes natural, but beware of excess, otherwise the effect will be artificial!
The contour and the lighting can be done with foundation, powder or even concealer. You should choose two shades lighter of your skin to highlight and two shades darker than your skin for the contour, and a product with your skin tone blend. The Products should always be matte and have no shimmer. They also should be well blended.
There are products in powder or cream, highlights and bronzes too, but you should be careful with shimmer (usually pearly or coppery) You can use those once you finished your makeup in some areas to give a "tanned look" (bronzer instead of blush) or to give some shimmer to inner corner of the eye and top of chick bones (highlight) . Kim Kardashian made the "contour and highlight" very popular once she took several photos with contour / lighting applied on her face.

But before you rush out to buy a contour kit every face is different, so check out what type of contour best highlights your face.
